The Society, having charitable status in the UK, has two patrons, Dr Joyce Morris and Gyles Brandreth who are very supportive of the organisation and its objectives.
Gyles Brandreth is a writer, performer, former MP and Government Whip whose career has ranged from hosting Have I Got News For You to starring in his own award-winning musical revue in London's West End. Currently a reporter with The One Show on BBC1 and a regular on Radio 4's Just A Minute, his acclaimed Victorian detective stories - The Oscar Wilde Murder Mysteries - are now being published in nineteen countries around the world. He is a noted lover of the English language whose books include The Joy of Lex and More Joy of Lex. He is also a crossword puzzle enthusiast, an inventor and player of sundry word games, the founder of the National Scrabble Championships and, since 1982, the most prolific guest in Dictionary Corner on Countdown on Channel Four. His message of support can be seen here.
The Society's President, Dr Bernard Lamb, is assisted by a board of Trustees, chaired by Miss CP Cawood.
As a member you will receive copies of QUEST, (currently three per year), by post. Our Newsletter is also published three times per year and is available within this website and members can choose delivery by post or via e-mail. There is an Annual General Meeting, to which we usually invite a guest speaker, and an annual summer Lunch at which all members are welcome.
At present, The QES has two local branches, in London and Arundel. It is an ambition to start more branches, to assist those members who are, and sometimes will feel, cut off from the Society for geographical reasons. For more on the topic of local branches, please go to our News Pages.
